S.T.S.®, Industrial Rescue Teams

The registered trademark “S.T.S.® – Special Techniques Rescue” identifies Italy’s first Industrial Rescue project.

S.T.S.® involves highly specialised personnel using a combination of purpose-designed equipment and special techniques to provide emergency response at industrial sites and during high-risk activities, including work at height and in confined spaces.

These specialised techniques draw on national and international experience.

To date, S.T.S.® teams have accumulated more than 556,000 hours of field operations across a wide range of industrial environments, including Oil & Gas, petrochemicals, power generation, major construction projects, pharmaceuticals, shipbuilding and plant maintenance.

EGC technicians can respond rapidly and effectively to complex emergencies, such as confined spaces with hazardous atmospheric conditions and elevated or difficult-to-access areas where Special Techniques Rescue is required.

In addition to standby rescue and emergency response, E.G.C. teams can provide clients, on request, with a comprehensive service supporting their HSE function through planned safety-improvement activities, including:

•         confined-space mapping

•         work-area inspections and support for coordination meetings

•         dedicated rescue and recovery plans and emergency drills

•         preliminary checks and work-area inspections

•         reporting and resolving non-conformities

•         training, practical instruction and on-the-job training

In addition to Special Techniques Rescue, E.G.C.’s experience and expertise enable us to support clients with:

  • integrating and updating the client’s and contractors’ emergency plans

  • defining the number, roles and specific competencies of emergency response personnel

  • identifying the equipment required to complete rescue operations

  • defining the temporary works and provisions required before work begins

  • identifying the manoeuvres and techniques needed to carry out an effective rescue and evacuate an injured person

  • conducting emergency drills to validate and, where necessary, refine the plan.
